PJB Solutions case study

Extra capacity in a Care home

Job Convert a wing of the Edwardian home into care accommodation
Client Westerley Christian Care Home, part of LWP homes
Completed August 2014
Category Commercial
Trades mixed trades
Value £>30K
Description / key tasks

The Edwardian building had originally incorporated ‘managers’ accommodation’, but, now unused, the Westerley management felt that this was unused space that could be used to better effect. The ‘flat’ was converted into 3 bed-rooms with en-suite sinks and toilets; a beautiful new lounge area over-looking the gardens, a separate toilet and a spacious bathroom with mobility friendly, accessible equipment.

Challenges & successes

The key challenge was to keep to schedule and work around the day to day life of the care home. The building was an old hotel so there were some structural constraints. Also the 'old fashioned' look was a key element of the friendly, family feel, so the challenge was to smarten and modernise without detracting from that.

The work has given us 3 extra beds which we are now registering with the CQC. The new lounge gives us more flexibility and the opportunity to generate extra revenue. We would definitely use PJB Solutions again; the main project was done well; the quality of the work was very good and the workmen were always polite and courteous. We have retained PJB on a maintenance contract.
